Larry "The Silver Fox" Jacobson - Seattle Gym
American Athlete of the Month: August 2009
Larry's formal introduction to organized fitness began when he was thirty-nine. He realized that smoking a pipe every day and ignoring his health may not be such a great thing. So he tossed the pipe aside and walked over to Anderson's to see what gyms were about. He was pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and the friendly people. That day he signed up for a one year membership and committed himself to fitness.
Twenty-six years later he could not imagine life any other way. Four months after joining Anderson's he set a goal to climb Mt. Rainier and did it. That experience spawned a curiosity in all things active. He then got into rock climbing, back into skiing, and pretty much any sport or activity that came his way.
This gung ‘ho attitude has had a great side effect. Fifteen years ago Larry went on medication for his cholesterol levels and he knows that exercise is playing a major roll in maintaining healthy blood lipid levels not to mention the strength of his heart.
Larry has always enjoyed the aerobics classes here and is sure to keep them in his weekly routine. Over the years they have improved his flixibility, balance, and agility, all of which become increasingly important as time goes on. He loves the changes that American Athlete has implemented, particularly the expansion of the group exercise program. He has tried pretty much every class that is offered and feels that the quality of classes and the instructors has sparked a new interest and taken him to a new level of fitness.
